This information clearinghouse contains information from the South African Traditional Medicines Research Unit (a joint venture between the Department of Pharmacology, University of Cape Town and the School of Pharmacy, University of Western Cape) and the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology Innovation Fund project 'Anti-malarial medicines from medicinal plants of southern Africa'. The aforementioned project is being undertaken by a consortium comprising the Medical Research Council, University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, National Botanical Institute, Council for Scientific Industrial Research and University of Western Cape.

Both of the initiatives are dedicated to promoting the health, scientific, cultural, environmental and socio-economic benefits to be derived from the development and sustainable use of southern Africa's medicinal plants.
